2009 Alerts!

The Boat-in Campground at Emerald Bay will be closed for most of the 2009 season!

California State Parks is replacing the boat dock so it is handicap accessible. The campground’s water line is on the dock and the campground itself will be the construction zone for this work. If the work is done quickly, the campground may open at the end of the summer, but the campsites will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis (no advance reservations). Check back here for updates. If you are planning to paddle around the lake this summer, look into D.L. Bliss State Park (Beach Camp campsites #141-165) or Camp Richardson Resort (Badger’s Den Campground) for nearby camping.

Lake Tahoe will be at low water this year!

1. Some boat ramps will be closed. The Coon St. and Tahoe Vista boat ramps (North Shore) will be closed to trailer launching this summer. Other launches with shallow water conditions include El Dorado Beach (South Shore) and Sand Harbor (East Shore). Check conditions with the launch managers before you arrive. In most cases, beach launching of portable boats such as kayaks and paddle boards will continue to be allowed.

2. Low water conditions make more beach area available and increase potential conflicts with private lakefront property owners. Remember that no public access is allowed on private beach fronts in Nevada. In California, public access is allowed in private residential areas below the legal high water mark of Lake Tahoe. However, this beach area is still close to private homes, so please be respectful. Control pets and children and be aware that movement above the high water line is considered trespass. As in all areas, please collect your waste, including animal waste.
