WHY THE LAKE TAHOE WATER TRAIL NEEDS YOU
For all that the Lake
Tahoe Water Trail offers, it doesn’t just happen. The LTWT committee has been
working actively to bring together all of the components to make it a reality.
Now that the trail is a reality, it must be nurtured and sustained by it’s
users. Join LTWT now
as a member or sponsor and be a part of the only organization dedicated to
improving and sustaining the Lake Tahoe Water Trail.

The LTWTA advocates for paddler interests at Lake Tahoe, promotes
development of
the Lake Tahoe Water Trail, and helps paddlers keep in touch with
emerging issues.
Our accomplishments:
- Urging agency support for paddling access – new rental
programs at California
and Nevada State Parks will begin this year. With your help,
we can work on
keeping access points available for more of the year and
keep up the pressure
about opening more areas for legal camping.
- Improving information available for paddlers – our Map
and Trail Guide is a good
comprehensive resource and we are working to improve info
available from
our website. We are also working with area agencies to
develop a coordinated
signage program identifying public access points from the
land and water.
- Providing input to public agencies about paddler needs,
particularly in the context
of the emerging aquatic invasive species inspection program.
Our involvement
helped direct the program away from blanket prohibitions to
one that relies on
developing paddler stewardship values and skills to avoid
spreading aquatic
invasive species.
- Promoting the Lake Tahoe Water Trail as a primary public
recreation resource
at the lake that contributes to a sustainable economy and
protects our natural
resources. Protecting lawful public access requires constant
vigilance and we are
the eyes on the ground to do that!
- Hosting annual interpretive group paddles that are fun
and build our knowledge
about Lake Tahoe, its natural and cultural assets.
